How Instagram foodie star Alexa Mehraban has a life outside social media

Alexa Mehraban checks all the boxes of an authentic social media influencer.

Mehraban does what she loves the most (trying delicious food around New York City). Makes a decent amount of money (working with brands like Oreo and McDonald’s). And she inspires thousands of people to seek out their own food adventures through her  “Eating NYC,”  Instagram account.

More than 280,000 people are mmm-ing over her mouth-watering photos. There’s something for everyone: dripping three-scoop ice cream cones, burgers piled with toppings, gooey mac and cheese, rainbow-colored smoothie bowls etc. And yes, Mehraban eats everything she posts about.

Her website is also packed with food recommendations such as What to Eat if You’re Visiting NYC for 48 Hours plus a restaurant rating list and an online apparel store.

This whirlwind of a life can easily lead to burnout. So Mehraban learned early on that “it’s really important to have some ground rules and make sure to keep time for your family, friends and your own sanity.”

Her two non-negotiable rules?

“I stop looking at my phone once I get into bed. And I try to keep work related events to the weekdays,” Mehraban explains.

Snacks From Influencers is a series asking social media influencers for advice on self-improvement. Responses are edited for space and clarity.
