The Basics of Essential Oils: for a Balanced Mind and Body

Essential oils may be your ticket to supporting your hormones naturally. 

They are incredible for supporting your body and some of the worst hormone symptoms. These oils have specialized properties due to hundreds of constituents that make them powerful allies in supporting your body’s natural functions. They can help your body to reset and retain balance when paired with positive lifestyle changes. Let’s take a look at a few essential oils scientifically proven to help us support our body and mind as we strive to find a balance:

Lavender

Lavender often pops up as an essential oil that supports myriad issues, but more importantly, it helps to reduce cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone that hijacks your body’s well-being in favor of warding off danger. It shuts down non-essential systems like reproductive and digestive, in favor of keeping you safe. 

Lavender soothes the skin on the surface, and also soothes the emotions at a deeper level to help your body find a natural calm.

Combined with Peppermint, it can be used for therapeutic massage to ease the pain of menstrual cramps, neck tension and headaches.

 Lavender can also be used by itself to help you find the relaxation you desperately need.

Clary Sage

Clary Sage provides support to the body’s natural estrogen and progesterone production. It’s is touted as the best oil for your worst time of the month, or even through menopause. Even working with other oils like Lavender and Frankincense, it can provide relief from cramps. 

Research has shown that simply inhaling its aroma dramatically decreases your cortisol levels, the stress hormone that is at the basis for many problems.

Bergamot

Directions:  In a 10 mL glass rollerball bottle, add the essential oils and fill to the top with your carrier oil. Replace the rollerball top, cap and swirl to combine.  To use, roll the blend over your ovaries and on your pulse points (behind the ears, neck, wrists and ankles) 2-3 times each day as needed.
